Witch Baby is also the book from which I got my musical name, Globelamp. Above her hung the clock, luminous, like a moon.”Īnd so begins Witch Baby, the second book in a series called Dangerous Angels by Francesca Lia Block (or FLB to my circle of fellow fans/friends). What is that supposed to mean? In the room full of musical instruments, watercolor paints, candles, sparkles, beads, books, basketballs, roses, incense, surfboards, china pixie heads, lanky toy lizards and a rubber chicken, Witch Baby was curling her toes, tapping her drumsticks and pulling on the snarl balls in her hair. ![]()

Hoffmann’s family were all jurists, and during his youth he was initially encouraged to pursue a career in law. Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann (1776 – 1822) was born in Königsberg, East Prussia. A true Christmas classic, perfect for festive bedtime reading for adults and children a-like. Probably Hoffman’s most well-known story, produced in 1816, due to the fact that – some seventy-six years later – it inspired Tchaikovsky’s ballet “The Nutcracker”. Hoffmann, “The Nutcracker and the Mouse-King” is the magical adventure of Marie Stahlbaum’s favourite toy, the Nutcracker, who battles the nefarious Mouse-King in battle and takes the reader on a wonderful adventure, into a magical land of dolls. ![]() ![]() ![]() There is no connection between the two books other than the name. Most likely the title I Moved Your Cheese which is a satirical look at the popular self-help book “Who Moved My Cheese,” draws attention and invites us to give this book a read. It seems that the biggest joke, which I have to give Darrel Bristow-Bovey credit for, is on us who have paid for the book in money and/or time. Is it a metaphor with a deep meaning of life, something that when we interpret it correctly is going to bring such clarity to our spiritual, emotional or financial wellbeing? Does it have hidden gems of information? So what is the secret, the lesson, the moon shot? Misdirection! Create an illusion that you are more interesting, more capable, highly sought after or wealthier than you actually are. … Self-help books are damaging to the self-esteem.” The strap-line on the cover says “This is the self-help book for people who want to take no steps at all.” So already I’m confused. The opening lines of the introduction are “This is not another self-help book. ![]() ![]() An heiress of a large fortune, Evie’s family is determined to force her to marry her revolting cousin and, even worse, she fears for her life once the deed is done.
